Below are the courses I took to complete UTK's Master's program in Instructional Technology and graduate certificate in online learning and teaching. Course descriptions provided by the University of Tennessee graduate catalog.
Core Concentration

(Proseminar 1: Instructional Technology as a Profession) Introduction to instructional technology as a field including definition of the field and career options, visual design principles, ethical issues, and usability testing within the context of electronic media development.

(Online Learning Environments) Theory, research and practice of designing, developing and evaluating online learning environments including distance education and blended learning approaches.

(Understanding Online Interaction) Assessment and evaluation of online learning environments using data-driven techniques.

(Instructional Systems Design) Application of theory and research of instructional systems design to solve instructional problems in educational settings.

(Introduction to Multimedia in Instruction) Selected computer-based multimedia production tools and use to produce instructional materials based on specific learner characteristics and objectives.

(Practicum in Online Learning Environments) Field-based project involving aspects of the instructional design process in an online learning environment with reflection on theory and practice issues.

(Instructional Media Development) Application of instructional design techniques to create well-designed and effective media appropriate for educational settings. This course is the second in a two-course instructional design and development sequence.

(Proseminar 2: Trends and Careers in Instructional Technology) Capstone course for the master’s program will include design, development and review of the portfolio requirement as well as discussion of current issues, trends and professional development opportunities in the field.
Foundations
Elective

(Learning in the Workplace) Theories and concepts supporting design and management of learning activities for adults in the workplace.

(Professional Ethics in Instructional Technology) Introduction to professional ethics related to instructional technology including topics such as electronic data security, equitable access to technology and electronic information, protecting client/user privacy, ethical policies, and Americans with Disabilities Act related media development issues.
Research
Certificate

(Design Cases) This course expands a designer’s repertoire through reading design cases, and also instructs learners on how to create instructional design cases themselves so that they might enter the professional community of instructional designers.

(Digital Tools for Qualitative Research) Participants will examine, explore, and reflect on what role digital tools can take in their future research practices and be guided to engage in ethical and reflexive research practices. Course will examine the role of digital tools in qualitative research design, collaborations among multiple researchers, literature review, data collection, data management.
