Collaboration in the Field

Collaboration Commitment Statement

For myself as the owner, originator:

When I am working on something that involves others or where I expect I will need the help and advice of others, I will add questions and comments in the document of specific areas where I need help or have questions. I will give ample time for collaborators to review the document and give comments while also allowing myself enough time to work and give my best initial effort. I will note revisions to make based on feedback given, the revisions I plan to make, and my rationale for those revisions.

With others (as a contributor):

I will have the attitude that my participation in giving feedback will lead to a better product/outcome. I will make sure to point out positive feedback as well as areas for improvement. Instead of merely mentioning that a change should be made, I will offer a choice of several suggestions of how to make those changes. I will address feedback in a timely manner since the owner cannot continue work while they are waiting for feedback.

Artifact 1: Reflections on Interviewing an ID Professional

Description

This is a reflection paper I wrote after interviewing an instructional designer, hearing a guest speaker for a course on instructional design as a profession, and reading other classmates' interviews.

Rationale

I included this artifact as it was one of my first discussions with a practicing instructional designer and it taught me invaluable lessons, including how fundamental collaboration is, constraints when designing, and the importance of establishing a good relationship with SMEs, professional development, needs analysis, and the various roles that instructional designers will cover depending on the project. These roles could be project management, evaluating learning, web and graphic designer, and presenter.  These lessons have proven true over time. The interview showed me how helpful and supportive the instructional designer community is, and that anytime I need help or have questions, there are so many in the ID community that I can lean on and assist in return.

Artifact 2: Group Work Reflection

Description

This is a self and peer reflection paper I wrote after participating in group work with two others to create an assessment plan.

Rationale

This shows my ability and confidence in leading a team project where we designed an assessment plan for an OER Bootcamp for K-12 teachers, ironing out misunderstandings, and delegating project tasks by strengths I saw in my team members, as one of my team members was a librarian familiar with open resources and the other a K-12 instructor. Together we agreed on and stuck to a meeting and deliverables schedule, both for the written paper and the presentation. We used a Teams site and email to communicate for this project. We used Google Docs to work on a paper together, leaving comments and suggestions as we wrote and wove together the pieces of our paper and presentation. My method of giving a positive comment before feedback for improvement helped alleviate small issues that arose in our project.
